More About the ArtistI graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art with a BA in Art Education and the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art with a concentration in commercial art. I live on the beautiful Delmarva Peninsula in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and maintain a studio and gallery there. Here, the diversity of people and scenery keeps me energized (and painting). I'm very fortunate to be able to do what I love. With a hope that I might share that opportunity, I joined the faculty of Wilmington College where I teach painting and drawing. I work in pastels, acrylics and watercolor, depending on the subject and how it called to me. Each of these mediums has qualities that can enhance or neutralize the emotion of a subject, so it can be an awesome task to pick the right one. I gravitate toward colorful, expressive realism and spend much time working on the color scheme for each painting, often doing 20 or 30 color studies. The composition of the work and its pattern of light and dark is another important set of decisions I must make, also necessitating many sketches. The early stages of a painting, the thinking and sketching part may take hours, days or months, but when brush is finally applied to the surface, the process goes quickly, almost magically for me. Collectors often tell me that my paintings make them happy; that they're warmed by the colors or the subject and that they can feel how I felt painting them. Great! That's what it's all about for me! Thanks for looking at my website! I hope you enjoy the view!Happenings
